First week at TIWI

http://tiwi.ca/index.htmlI completed week 1 of 14 of studies at Toronto Image Works Institute to become a graphic designer.  My two teachers are Paul Hilderbrandt for computer applications and Tom Dearie for design elements.  I have 6 classmates and they are all from different places around the world: Canada (Richmond Hill, ON), Italy, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.

My first week, introduced me to some of the common elements between Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.  We also took a good look at Adobe Bridge – and I was surprised to see how useful it could be 🙂

Also, we had an introduction to design: simple zones and simple shapes. Followed by the process of design: understanding business needs, designing thumbnail sketches, creating a grid, rough design and tight production layout.

The last part of Friday’s class set out our portfolio requirements and I am a little nervous but very excited to get started!
